I disagree with you with it being a mistake.For residential applications with terrible bidding it's open but some of the best challenge locks have come from that keyway.put high and low on that keyway Like 0 cut in front of a 9 cut and it's a tough keyway.

While the LW5 keyway are wide open they can be made better with decent bidding on the key and can be overset very easily if you have a couple of deep cuts protecting some high cuts as demonstrated by Peter.

the Lockwood key way is a mistake I don't think so mate you want to try and pick some of the Lockwood padlocks they have some great tollences you could also load it with serrated pins mashroom pins hybrid serrated spool pins that will certainly give you a run for your money.

Nice lock and review. That Master Locksmith's keyway looks pretty tough!
          @MichaelMaynard 02.02.2017->It is, I finally got it with a pick made for that terrifying lock belonging to Banjaxed. Video on the Abus to come but the horrible ?Wikta will be a failure-to-pick video I think.

Nice job. Abus has a WW keyway that I personally think is better (harder) then the MLS keyway. I just sent 1 to Noctis Motus.

Very nice and beefy Abus Michael :D. I just try to imagine what a beast that shackle is with over 11mm :). Was pretty surprised that it (slightly beveled) standard pins. Thank you for sharing and all the information, always wanted to know more about the WP version :D.

This information was extremely useful, thanks Michael ?. I was finally able to pick the one you sent me after days of trying. I have an extreme dislike of bevelled pins. I might need to try Brians tip.

Hi Michael, Having picked Lockwood bevelled pins for longer than I care to remember, there is a product that virtually eliminates the need for an extra nudge on bevelled pins - yes Abus, as you have shown, use bevelled pins. Ordinary graphite puffed into a lock, either stays at the bottom of the pins, puffs out the back of the keyway, or at best gets halfway up the key pins. The product is by Dy - Mark available in NZ, a spray can of super fine graphite in an instant drying solution. Does not stay wet , leaves only graphite behind, and froths up and gets where it should around the bevelled drivers. While picking, the bevelled pins will ride out of the plug, instead of hanging up, requiring extra attention. It's sold under Dy - Mark PROTECH Cleaners and Lubricants. While not always necessary, it makes a difference to picking with the pick gun, dare I say bumping, and particularly spping - however, makes impressioning more difficult .... Regards, Brian.

          @brianhignett8954 28.01.2017->Michael, That's the gear! Finer than most puffer style of graphite, and gets in where it's needed. Doesn't leave a wet residue - instant dry, unlike some forms of lock lube with graphite. Comes with fine application tube - highly recommended. Regards, Brian.
